Alexander – Home page

Personal web site of Alexander on the Internet. Another home. 🏡

One can consider this bunch of web pages as my office. Or my kontor. 🏢
Calling it "embassy" would probably sound preposterous. To me at least.
Feel free to make yourself at home. But do not forget that you are a guest.

You have found your way to my personal web site. This fact alone makes me happy. Almost ecstatic. 🙂 Perhaps, you received my business card, read my CV or heard about the site (or about me) from someone? Or maybe your favourite search engine suggested you have a closer look at this? Either way, welcome!

In case we have not met before, my name is Alexander. I look forward to hearing (or reading) your name.

— Occupation?
— No no, just visiting.
Old joke.

A more serious answer to the question about my occupation would be saying that I am an experienced software engineer who is currently "between jobs" (common euphemism for being unemployed).

After seeing the joke you could almost guess that I am originally from the big country that most of Europe is now scared of (if not horror-struck). 😱 That would be a sensible guess. You have probably never heard about the city I am originally from but you might have heard the name of its most notable person. Actually, you can still "meet" him. However, you might need to have some paperwork (e.g. visa) done first.

Some time ago I became curious about working and studying abroad. As a result, the last 16 years I have been living in the city that is often called "Sveriges framsida" (English: Sweden's face/upside). Today I can call both countries home. 🇷🇺🇸🇪 I have plenty of reasons for this, including legal ones. 🛂

You might wonder how I look like. As most men, I do not have that many of recent photos of myself. But I do have a couple of "relatively fresh" ones:

Some might consider them together as being a "mug shot" of me. 👮

If you are looking for scary photos, I have one:

Some questions that you might be wondering about:

  • What is the purpose of this web site? 🤔

To showcase my CV and also to complement it with other useful information about me. And to have something to do when I am bored.

  • Doesn't he have a LinkedIn page for this?

I do have my LinkedIn page. However, it is easier to structure and present the relevant information when I can control how it looks like. Less limitations. Besides, LinkedIn is not the best place to be when one is bored.

  • Isn't having a personal web site with a hit counter and guestbook a bit of anachronism in 2026?

Perhaps. But I still need to practice my programming skills. Otherwise, they might become rusty. (Swedish: Att vara ringrostig.) Even though I do not have an employment at the moment, it is still a bit of a pleasure to be building something new. Learning new things, getting stuck, investigating, fixing, finding better ways, refactoring and so on... Engineering tasks can be addictive. Still, I have seen some others with much worse addictions. Perhaps, I can consider myself as being lucky. 😉

  • How much does it cost him to have this web site running?

Almost nothing. I am paying my bills for electricity and the Internet anyway. And Raspberry Pi 5 was bought a while ago for completely different reasons. DNS service that I am using is free.

  • What technologies are being used on this web site? What programming languages?

The core part is written in PHP and uses MariaDB. It runs on Apache HTTP Server. The client part of the chatbot is written in JavaScript and the server part has a module written in Python that uses Ollama and runs one pre-trained LLM. The server part of the tracer is also written in Python and it uses InfluxDB. The real-time data is shown in Grafana. The Android app is written in Kotlin. Use of HTML and CSS should be obvious to everyone. 😊

  • Does he specialize on those technologies?

Not really. During 15 years of my career I was developing software in C and C++, 4 years in Python. However, I also know a few other languages. I was working in the telecom industry for 12.5 years. Before that I was developing software for hardware diagnostics for 5 years. Nevertheless, much more important part is not about programming languages or technologies. What really matters is understanding the task, building the best architecture, choosing the most suitable tools and getting things done. One can learn some basics in programming languages in a few days. But learning how to make effective solutions can take a lifetime. And not everyone succeds.

  • Could he build something useful for us too?

It is quite possible. A good start might be scheduling a first meeting. Ideally, face-to-face meeting in a nice Gothenburg office. I prefer to be contacted via email that is mentioned in my CV. 📧
